DATU ODIN SINSUAT, MAGUINDANAO DEL NORTE โ In line with the celebration of Childrenโs Month this year, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) and other members of the Regional Committee for the Welfare of Children (RCWC), and the Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (RJJWC) visited the evacuation centers here today, 11 November 2022, to conduct outreach activities for the children displaced by Typhoon Paeng who are staying at the evacuation centers.
In the BARMM, this yearโs theme for the Childrenโs Month is #BangonBatangBangsamoro, which encapsulates and amplifies the efforts of the Bangsamoro Governmentโs interventions to address the rights of the child on development, protection, survival, and participation, with a special focus on children who bore the brunt of Typhoon Paeng.
In Kusiong Elementary School, which serves as an evacuation center, a total of 350 children participated in the program, wherein the 0-to 2-year-old children received 62 sets of toys and hygiene kits, while each of the 292 children, aged 3 to 15 years old, received school bags containing school supplies and hygiene kits.
Meanwhile, another outreach program was also conducted at Dinaig Elementary School evacuation center, wherein a total of 315 children joined the same activities and received 145 sets of school kits.
During the play therapy, the children participated in parlor games and a talent show. As one of the highlights, a Pikachu mascot also performed during the program.
Together with MSSD, the Ministry of Health also brought its diagnostic mobile clinic, and conducted a medical mission to check the health status of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) temporarily staying inside the evacuation centers.
MSSD also distributed school bags with school supplies and hygiene kits for the 30 displaced children staying at the Cotabato evacuation center.
MSSD Minister Raissa H. Jajurie, Deputy Minister Nur-Ainee Tan Lim, and PSWO Hadja Emma Salik Ali led the outreach program.
This is also in partnership with other members of the RCWC and RJJWC like PNP PRO BAR and Bangsamoro Planning and Development Agency (BPDA), who attended the event today. The Armed Forces of the Philippines also provided security support.
