The MSSD Tawi-Tawi Provincial Office provided relief assistance for 151 temple (or tempil) operators and laborers from Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi on 30 October 2021.
Each beneficiary received a 25 kg sack of rice as part of MSSD’s support for members of the transport sector who were affected by the sharp fuel price hikes over the past ten weeks.
Sitangkai is often referred to as the Venice of the Philippines due to the use of boats as the primary mode of transportation within the islands of the municipality.
These boats, which are called temple or tempil in the local language, are used for the inter-island transport of passengers and cargo.
