SULU โ The Sulu provincial office of the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) celebrates the week-long observance of Bangsamoro Foundation Day through conduct of two-day payout for indigent senior citizens under the Social Pension (SocPen) program from 22 to 24 January 2024.
A total of 5,984 senior citizens received PhP 3,000 each โ 998 from the municipality of Maimbung, 891 from Talipao, 829 from Luuk, 718 from Parang, 656 from Indanan, 648 from Omar, 604 from Jolo, and 534 from Hadji Panglima Tahil. Another 106 beneficiaries from the municipality of Patikul also received Php 3,000 each.
The said payout was conducted to commemorate the celebration of BARMM foundation day. It also provided recognition for the senior citizens for their resiliency and contribution to the community, upholding their dedication to raising their families.
The SocPen Program is a nationally-funded social protection program implemented by MSSD in BARMM. It aims to provide a Php 500 monthly stipend to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable senior citizens to support their daily needs and other necessary medications.
In her speech during the ceremonial celebration of BFD, Provincial Social Welfare Officer, Hadja Imelda Kangiluhan, emphasized the importance of the week-long celebration of BARMM, which also recognizes the senior citizens for their contributions to the community. โOur senior citizens play a crucial role in our community; they are our root and the reflection of who we are now in the present time.โ
The MSSD will continue to monitor and secure the welfare of the vulnerable elderly person to uplift their well-being and provide assistance to their medical needs.
