PANGLIMA SUGALA, TAWI-TAWI โ The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) brought the celebration of National Childrenโs Month to indigenous Sama-Dilaut or Badjao children and conducted an outreach program in Brgy. Balimbing, Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi on November 9, 2023.
Each child participant received T-shirts, umbrellas, and school supplies, such as a backpack, a notebook, crayons, a pencil, a pen, scissors, colored paper, a drawing book, an eraser, and a sharpener from MSSD.
Meanwhile, MSSD, along with representatives from UNHCR, UNICEF, Panglima Sugalaโs LGU, and Tau-Social Peace Advocate of Real Tawi-Tawian Active Network, Inc., also conducted the ceremonial distribution of free birth certificates to the participating children and their families who were unregistered before.
The recipients of free birth certificates were those registered in the area during the series of free birth registrations administered last August through the joint initiative of MSSD, its international development partners, and the local civil registrar.
โAside from the fact that these birth certificates are important documentary requirements that will give them their official and registered identities, it will be easier for them now to access government services and more opportunities,โ Arbaine Guiabar, MSSDโs Child and Youth Welfare Program Focal Person stated.
MSSD Tawi-Tawi Provincial Social Welfare Officer Hadja Belinda Adil also presented about the children’s rights and the provincial branch officeโs continuous efforts in advancing those rights through the various social protection programs and services of the Ministry for the indigenous children and their communities.
During the activity, MSSD also facilitated games for the children participants. Partners from the marine and business sector also extended their support in the activity such as the provision of hot meals from the 5th Regional Mobile Force Company (RMFC) of Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) โ BASULTA, cash prizes, and packed lunch from the LGU, and a sweet corner with free ice cream and cotton candies from Azumi Laundry shop.
Present also during the outreach activity were various officials, department heads, and representatives from the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC), Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC), Philippine National Police (PNP) PRO-BAR, police maritime, municipal police station, LGU, and barangay local government unit of Balimbing.
