The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), in partnership with UNICEF and UNHCR, successfully facilitated the ceremonial distribution of birth certificates to indigent children in Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, on November 7, 2023.
Through this program, 100 indigent children received their birth certificates courtesy of the Children and Youth Welfare Program’s (CYWP) Free Birth Registration project. The Ministry also provided them with school supplies, meals, and shirts.
Minister Raissa Jajurie emphasized the importance of a birth certificate during the distribution of births. โIt is one of the required documents for us to be recognized by other agencies and to access services such as education, healthcare, and more,โ Jajurie said.
A birth certificate is a legal document, required by law, that serves as proof of an individualโs identity and nationality. It also allows a person to avail of basic services such as education, health, and other specific programs from different government agencies, including the MSSD.
The distribution of free birth certificates, part of the celebration of National Childrenโs Month, was also attended by MSSD director general Mohammad Muktadir Estrella, UNHCR protective associate Meriam Faith Palma, UNICEF Education Specialist Roger Masapol, BYC commissioner Nasserudin Dunding, and representatives of Bangsamoro Information Office (BIO), Philippine Information Agency Region 12 (PIA12), Philippine National Police (PNP), 25th Marine Company MBLT 5, Local Government of Datu Blah, MSSD-Maguindanao Provincial Office (MSSD-MPO), Municipal Social Worker Officers (MSWO), and para-social workers.
