COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) in coordination with the Cotabato City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU), conducted an assessment and validation of families residing in hazard-prone houses yesterday in Brgy. Poblacion 1, Cotabato City.
These families have been referred to the MSSD for assistance through the Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) program. ESA is one of the Ministry’s social protection programs under the Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD) that focuses on rehabilitating and reconstructing the homes of indigent families affected by both natural and human-induced disasters.
Rasul Tino, MSSD Social Welfare Officer II, explained that the assessment revealed that these homes are frequently submerged during floods due to their low-lying location.
“Their houses are already dilapidated and at risk of collapse. Given that some family members are vulnerable, including senior citizens and children, it is crucial that we assist them in fortifying their homes,” Tino stated.
“Following this assessment, the DRMD will facilitate the provision of construction materials for the immediate repair of their houses. Additionally, we have referred them to other banner programs offered by MSSD to ensure they receive further assistance for which they qualify,” Tino added.
