With the shared objective of promoting and advancing the care, growth, and development of children under 5 years old, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) and BRAC Philippines have formally entered into a collaborative partnership for the two-year pilot implementation of the Play Lab project in 15 selected barangays of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
This significant partnership was formalized through a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Atty. Raissa Jajurie, MSSD Minister, and Jocelyn M. Villanueva, BRAC Philippines Country Director on Monday, September 4, 2023, in Talayan, Maguindanao del Sur.
On the same day, MSSD and BRAC Philippines, along with various development partners, inaugurated the first Play Lab Center in Barangay Lanting, Talayan, Maguindanao del Sur, which will serve as the model center in the region. This center is expected to benefit 25 early learners within the community.
MSSD also provided materials for the construction of the Play Lab Center’s comfort room to ensure proper sanitation for the early learners.
“The 14 other Play Lab Centers in Maguindanao del Sur and Lanao del Sur are also set to commence operations within this month, coinciding with the resumption of classes for this school year,” Asnaira PagayaoโLaba, Project Evaluation Officer of MSSD stated.
Under the MOA, MSSD and BRAC Philippines will work closely on several key aspects, including local implementation and sustainability planning of the project, development of tools and learning modules, conducting child surveys, community scoping, capacity building, mobilization of community engagement, and coordination with partner stakeholders from the community.
