In response to the state of calamity declared in Maguindanao del Sur and three municipalities in Maguindanao del Norte, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) started monitoring operations to evaluate the condition of communities affected by the floods.
As per Resolution No. 061, s. 2023, a state of calamity has been declared in Maguindanao del Sur due to severe flooding. The calamity has caused extensive damage to infrastructure, displaced residents, and disrupted livelihoods in its 12 municipalities. According to its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), approximately 44,722 families or 223,610 individuals have been significantly affected, accounting for 30.90% of the province’s total population. Initial assessments conducted by MSSD in Sultan sa Barongis and Shariff Saydona Mustapha identified 6,123 severely affected households.
In Maguindanao del Norte, a state of calamity was also declared in the municipalities of Kabuntalan, Northern Kabuntalan, and Sultan Kudarat. On July 06, 2023, the Ministry conducted monitoring and assessment activities in the affected municipalities of the province, identifying 1,995 households in Datu Piang, 3,050 households in Northern Kabuntalan, and 5,144 households in Kabuntalan requiring intervention.
The Ministry is working closely with the local government units (LGUs) and MDDRMOs of Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte to coordinate relief distributions for the affected households in the coming days.
