𝗠𝗦𝗦𝗗 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟱𝗸 𝗜𝗗𝗣𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗹𝘂

𝗠𝗦𝗦𝗗 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟱𝗸 𝗜𝗗𝗣𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗹𝘂

MAIMBUNG, SULU — The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) immediately responded to the urgent needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) who were forced to evacuate their residences due to an ongoing armed conflict that erupted on June 24, 2023. The conflict has affected several barangays, including Luam Maimbung, Buado Lipid, Poblacion, Upper Tambaking, and Tabu-bato.

On the same day, the Ministry started relief operations and provided essential goods to the designated evacuation center in Maimbung. A total of 1,153 families were provided with 25 kilogram-rice and food packs, while 68 families received sleeping kits. The local government units, both municipal and barangay, also extended their support by providing hot meals, packed lunches, rice sacks, and groceries to the affected IDPs.

Another relief operation is currently underway today, focusing on assisting the affected families from Barangays Upper Tambaking and Tabu-Bato.

According to the latest report from MSSD-Sulu, as of June 26, 2023, a total of 1,280 families, comprising 5,647 individuals, have sought temporary shelter after being displaced by the conflict. The Ministry is closely monitoring the situation and actively working to provide ongoing support to these affected families.
