Earlier today, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) released an honorarium worth PhP 6,000 to each of the 42 child development workers (CDWs) or daycare workers in Upi, Maguindanao del Norte.
The honorarium covers a monthly subsidy of PhP 2,000 for the first quarter of the year, from January to March.
These 42 CDWs are currently responsible for the education and care of 1,298 learners enrolled in child development centers (CDCs) and supervised neighborhood play (SNP) areas.
In addition, MSSD distributed learning materials to five child development centers in the municipality. The materials include five board story books, five balls, one ream of art paper, one box of colored chalk, posters, pencils, erasers, scissors, and watercolors.

This social intervention is under the Early Childhood Care Development (ECCD) Program implemented by the Ministry’s Child and Youth Welfare Program. The ECCD program aims to provide support for health, nutrition, early education, and social services for children aged 0-4 years.
Currently, the municipality has 35 accredited CDCs, and an additional 50 CDCs are scheduled for accreditation in 2023.
Upi is one of the leading municipalities in ECCD in the BARMM region. The local government unit (LGU) of Upi has been actively supporting the program by providing various forms of assistance. This includes augmenting the provision of an additional PhP 1,000 monthly subsidy to 97 CDWs, PhP 2,500 monthly subsidy to 20 accredited CDWs, as well as assigning one CDW with a monthly salary equivalent to salary grade 8.
The LGU of Upi also supports monthly meetings of CDWs and other ECCD-related engagements.
Present during the ceremonial distribution were MSSD Chief of Staff Lyca Sarenas, Provincial Social Welfare Officer Hadja Emma Ali, Engr. Datu Henry Pagayao from the Office of the Provincial Government of Maguindanao del Norte, Vice Mayor Wilfredo Ibaรฑez, and MSSD field workers and local officials.
