COTABATO CITY โ In continuation of the Women’s Month Celebration, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), led by Minister Atty. Raissa H. Jajurie, visited the women deprived of liberty in Maguindanao Provincial Jail earlier today to distribute hygiene kits.
In her address, Minister Jajurie emphasized that this initiative is a crucial step towards guaranteeing that persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), specifically women, are treated with humanity while serving their sentence.
A total 10 women deprived of liberty received hygiene kit, comprised of essential items such as bath soap, shampoo, sanitary napkin, blanket, and other personal care products.
The Ministry also conducted mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities to destress the women and give them an avenue to share their experiences.
During the session, one of the PDLs with alias “Bai”, who is serving a 10-year sentence, expressed her profound longing for her family by drawing a bed. She shared that the bed symbolizes the cherished memories she had with her daughters and grandchildren, as they would spend quality time together in the comforts of her bed.
The MHPSS session was led by Regional Womenโs Welfare Program (WWP) focal Faida Ensanah, Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons (RRPTP) focal Jan Michelle Agata, and Maguindanao WWP focal Celia Fe Tangian.
This is part of MSSD’s series of activities on this month anchored on the theme “WE for Gender Equity and Inclusive Society”. The same activity will be conducted in the coming days to other target provincial and city jails across BARMM.
The activity today was done in coordination with Maguindanao Provincial Jail Warden Ato W. Dimananal, along with other jail officers.
