DSA, MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR – As a long-term social intervention for the displaced families who became homeless due to armed conflict, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of 84 housing units through the Ministryโs Bahay Program yesterday, February 20, 2023, in Brgy. Salbu.
Minister Atty. Raissa Jajurie personally led the groundbreaking activity along with Municipal Mayor Edris Sindatok, the representative from the construction company, and other local government officials.
Of the 84 housing units with Php 42 – million funding to be constructed, 34 will be in Brgy. Salbu, 25 in Brgy. Madia, and 25 in Brgy. Kitapok.
Each housing unit will encompass 30 square meters with two (2) bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen.
Bahay Program is a housing program implemented under MSSDโs Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) which provides permanent shelters to indigent displaced families who lost their homes and livelihoods due to armed conflicts and calamities upon a thorough assessment of field social workers.
โThe mandate of MSSD focuses on the vulnerable sectors, including internally displaced persons (IDPs). Aside from providing food and non-food items during their displacement, we want them to return to their normal lives. This is part of durable solutions in order for them to return to their homes and if not, they can live in a home where they will be safe from other disasters or danger,โ said Minister Jajurie.
She also pointed out that the housing program is resettlement
since the recipients are from different barangays and there are other needed interventions to be done for the program in the long run such as the installment of the water system, electricity, and other facilities.
Minister Jajurie also expressed her gratitude to the partners from the local government unit for their support in pushing the said housing program.
โThis is not the end of our intervention. In fact, this is the initial step of our long process in facilitating a solution to the plight of the IDPs in Datu Saudi Ampatuan,โ she added.
