PIGCAWAYAN, SPECIAL GEOGRAPHIC AREA โ The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) launched its new program, Hadiya: Care Packages for Elderly Bangsamoro, earlier today with 60 senior citizens in attendance.
First of its kind in Bangsamoro region, the program aims provide care packages, which are specifically curated and designed to meet the various needs of the indigent Bangsamoro senior citizens. It is among the programs under the Older Persons and Persons with Disability Welfare Program (OPPWDWP), which supports the promotion of active aging through social protection and support for the rights and welfare of senior citizens and their empowerment.
“This is the Ministry’s way of reaching out to every elderly in the region to recognize their significant role and contributions in building the Bangsamoro society”, said Sandra B. Macacua, OPPWDWP Regional Focal Person.
Each Hadiya (gift) contains goods and gadgets that will allow them to monitor their health and take care of their needs. Specifically, inside each package are the following: digital blood pressure monitor, finger pulse oximeter, temperature scanner, pillbox, two boxes of disposable facemask, liniment oil, rubbing alcohols, two packs of adult diaper, hot and cold compress device, talcum powder, mentholated rub, wooden back scratcher, two packs of powdered milk, a set of socks, towel, burn ointment, povidone-iodine, gauze bandage, surgical tape, cotton balls, band aid, and tissue rolls. Each of the senior citizens present also received hygiene kit and food pack.
“The Ministry aims to augment the benefits received by senior citizens because they belong to the priority sectors in BARMM, who need social protection interventions”, added by Lyca Therese Sarenas, MSSD Chief of Staff.
Also in attendance were SGA Coordinator Haron Amer, representative from Alpha Company, BLGU-Simsiman, and MSSD-SGA social workers.
