MAGUINDANAO — In line with the Typhoon Paeng interventions being simultaneously provided by MSSD in typhoon-affected areas of BARMM, the trained social workers started conducting Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities for the evacuees in this province.

Over 100 evacuees staying at Awang Elementary School, Broce Central Elementary School, and Badak Elementary School have undergone MHPSS on 31 October 2022.

The said activity specifically targeted those who lost a member/s of their family during the flooding incident.

The adult and teenagers shared their experiences during the typhoon to the social workers in a group discussion, while the children have undergone play and art therapies.

Some evacuees expressed their need to be reintegrated with their relatives while others need assistance to repair or rebuild their damaged shelter.

MHPSS, also known as a psychosocial first aid, plays an important role during natural and human-induced crisis to foster the psychological improvement of the victims.
