MAGUING, LANAO DEL SUR โ Thousands of residents were forced to flee from their homes in Maguing, Lanao del Sur following the airstrike launch of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in the hinterlands of Brgy. Ilalag during the military operations in search for alleged members of the ISIS-inspired Dawlah Islamia at 2:00AM on March 1.
As part of its immediate humanitarian response, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) through its Lanao del Sur A Provincial Office provided relief assistance for 150 conflict-affected families who are temporarily staying at the municipal evacuation centers in Brgy. Madaya Poblacion and Madrasah Muslafah in Brgy. Dilausan, on March 4.
Each family received sleeping kits, 25 kilos of rice, canned goods, and other grocery items.
The Municipal Social Welfare Office of Maguing along with the deployed MSSD para-social workers also have been assisting in the distribution of relief goods from BARMM (READI) and provincial local government unit.
MSSD will also provide relief assistance for home-based displaced families who were affected by the conflict upon completion of the needs assessment.
Based on the report from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO), 1, 257 families from Barangays Runggayan, Ilalag, Kianodan, Bubong Maguing, Bubong-Bayabao, Balintao, Camalig, Cambing, and Bato-bato of Maguing have been displaced.
MSSD shall be conducting a comprehensive needs assessment to determine the immediate and long-term needs of the IDPs pertaining to their well-being, security, and safety.
MSSD shall also conduct mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activities for women and children who were directly affected by the armed conflict.
