PATIKUL, SULU — Following the series of free birth registration campaign and roll-out trainings, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) officially launches the first actual free birth registration onsite in the province of Sulu in the municipality of Patikul on August 4-6, 2022.

A total of 516 individuals from the municipality were registered; 288 of them are 0-12 year-old children, who are the primary targets of the Ministry’s Children and Youth Welfare Program (CYWP). All the fees needed for the issuance of their Security Paper (SecPa) from Philippine Statistics Office (PSA) shall be shouldered by the Ministry.

The said activity is in coordination with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Municipal Civil Registrar (MCR), Local Government Unit (LGU) of Patikul, Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs) of Tandu Bagua and Pansul, and para-social workers.

Meanwhile, the same activity will be conducted in Hadji Mohammad Ajul, Basilan starting today until August 11, 2022; and in Tandubas, Tawi-Tawi from August 13-15, 2022.

This project aims to address the issue on non-birth registration in these municipalities which led to exclusion of indigenous households in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and their limited access to other social services available for them. It also aims to establish a proper database system to resolve the problem on multiple birth registration.
