MAGUINDANAO โ Through the assistance of MSSD social workers here, two (2) families and two (2) minor children were provided with necessary interventions, such as psychosocial, financial, and protective services to alleviate their situation.
The first case is of a 41-year-old woman from Taguig City, who sought the assistance of MSSD to get her 3-year-old child from her husband after returning to Datu Odin Sinsuat. She reported that her husband is allegedly inflicting physical violence to her, prompting their rescue from their residence. They stayed at Halfway Home, MSSD Maguindanao’s temporary shelter, for a while. She and her husband have undergone counseling to help them reconcile. Through this intervention, the family was reunited. Before returning home, they were given a PhP10,000-capital for their ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฌ๐ข๐ฏ๐ช๐ฏ business, 25 kilogram-rice, sleeping kit, dignity kit, and cooking kit.
The second case is of a 32-year-old woman from South Upi who sought help from MSSD to gain the custody of her children. She and her children also stayed at Halfway Home for a month, and eventually, the team of social workers were able to mediate the conflict between her and her former husband. At the end of this intervention, she was granted with visitation rights to her children.
The third case involves a stow away child from Marawi City. According to Ms. Laila Salik-Kadir, RSW, MTSWโSocial Welfare Officer II of MSSD Maguindanao, this minor is approximately 12-14 years old. He currently stays at the same temporary shelter since July 2022.
The fourth case is of a 16-year-old girl from Cotabato City, who was referred to MSSD’s office in Maguindanao. She was seen loitering outside a fast-food chain in the city. Initially, she stayed at Halfway Home, but she was eventually referred to Social Development Center of Cotabato City. She was then reunited with her mother on August 14.
MSSD will continue to monitor the situation of these families and children to assess if they need future interventions.
