COTABATO CITY — MSSD conducted a five-day training here at Em Manor Hotel and Convention Center from August 29 to September 2, 2022, to strengthen the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) system in the BARMM region. The 32 participants of this activity, which is entitled “Training of Trainers on National Early Learning Curriculum (NELC) and Tahderiyyah 1 Curriculum”, are composed of regional and provincial staff of the Ministry.

With the return of face-to-face modality in education, it is necessary to strengthen the capacity of Child Development Workers (CDWs), who look after the children under this program. Hence, MSSD invited resource persons from the ECCD Council and Education Pathways to Peace in Mindanao to train the participants, who will eventually train the CDWs in their respective provinces and municipalities.

Through strengthening the ECCD system, children ranging from 2 to 5 years old, who are enrolled in CDCs and Supervised Neighborhood Plays (SNP) will have a good learning foundation because their holistic needs are provided in the program.

Moreover, Early Childhood Education (ECE) prepares the child for school through activities that stimulate physical, mental and social development. This is done by exposing them to outdoor play facilities and engaging learning materials.

The Ministry has already started distributing ECCD outdoor play facilities and learning materials to identified CDCs ahead of the commencement of face-to-face class this school year. Consequently, this activity was conducted to ensure that the children under this program will receive quality ECE that will prepare them for elementary education.

This activity was led by Ms. Arbaine S. Guiabar — Project Evaluation Officer II and Ms. Kay E. Lintongan, RSW, MPA — Social Welfare Officer IV, and CYWP Specialist.
