Earlier today, on September 9, 2023, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), in collaboration with the Office of the Member of Parliament, Hashemi Dilangalen, distributed relief assistance to 40 families affected by a recent fire incident in Brgy. Rosary Heights 7, Cotabato City.
The fire broke out on Wednesday, September 5, near the Barter Trade Center of Cotabato City, destroying 25 houses and displacing numerous families. The majority of those affected have sought shelter with relatives, while some are residing temporarily at the barangay hall.
Each of the affected families received relief packages consisting of 25 kilograms of rice, essential grocery items, dignity kits, hygiene water kits, and tarpaulins.
Sandra Gani, MSSD Social Welfare Officer III, stated that the Ministry plans to offer additional social support measures, including Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS), medical aid, and emergency shelter assistance.
Gani explained, “Based on the initial assessment conducted by MSSD para-social workers, in addition to food and non-food items, including clothing, the displaced families need temporary shelters and psychosocial support.”
The MSSD Regional Office, in close coordination with the City Government, will conduct a profiling of the affected families using the IDP Profiling, Assessment, and Response Tracking tool (iPART) to streamline the provision of assistance to those in need.
