TAWI-TAWI – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), through its Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Program, constructed six (6) toilet facilities in the barangays of Amilhamja Jaafar and Sibutu Proper in Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi, on November 24, 2023.

According to Municipal Social Welfare Officer Niezel Asakil, four (4) toilet facilities were constructed in Amilhamja Jaafar, of which two (2) are already completed and being utilized by the community. The remaining two (2) comfort rooms are currently under construction, while the two (2) additional toilet facilities are being constructed in Sibutu Proper.

The facilities aim to promote proper sanitation and hygiene practices in the community. This WASH intervention supports the declaration of zero open defecation (ZOD) in the communities.

The Local Government Unit of Sibutu also extended support to the program by providing additional materials for the construction of the toilets.

Partner agencies, including the Rural Health Unit of Sibutu and the Barangay Local Government Unit of Sibutu, were also present during the launch to demonstrate their support.
