Foldable canes for the visually impaired and wheelchairs with commodes for older persons were distributed in Cotabato City and Sultan Mastura town, Maguindanao del Norte on 24 October 2023.
Aside from the assistive devices, the 12 beneficiaries also received hygiene kits and Hadiya packages. Hadiya is a care package specifically curated and designed to meet the various needs of indigent Bangsamoro senior citizens.
Jowairia Latip, one of the beneficiaries from Rosary Heights VI, Cotabato City expressed gratitude, โTuwang-tuwa ako dahil kailangan ko talaga ng wheelchair. Salamat dahil ito ay maganda at bago; makakatulong ito para maging mas madali ang aking mga follow-up check-ups. Salamat sa MSSD dahil lagi akong nakakatanggap ng tulong mula sa inyo.โ
(I am very happy because I really needed the wheelchair. Thank you because it’s nice and new; it will make my follow-up checkups easier. Thanks to MSSD because I always receive assistance from you.)
The distribution of assistive devices and other kits is one of the activities of the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) under the Older Persons and Persons with Disability Welfare Program (OPPWDWP).
Promoting inclusivity, the program recognizes the importance of supporting and protecting the rights of both older persons and persons with disabilities towards improving their lives and ensuring their well-being.
