SITANGKAI, TAWI-TAWI – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) spearheaded an outreach program for Sama-Badjao women and children in Sitio Panggungan, Barangay Datu Baguinda Putih to mark the beginning of National Women’s Month celebrations.
In coordination with the local government unit (LGU) of Sitangkai and Marine Battalion Landing Team-12, the Ministry distributed 75 hygiene kits for women, 100 water kits for family heads, and 100 sets of slippers, toys, and snacks for the children present during the event.
This year’s campaign, themed “WE for Gender Equity and Inclusive Society,” aims to promote inclusivity, respect, and equality among all genders. Dubbed as #WEcanbeEquALL, the month-long celebration features various activities such as outreach programs, forums, and seminars that seek to empower women and other marginalized sectors.
The Sama-Badjao community is among the most disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in Tawi-Tawi, facing various socio-economic challenges such as poverty, lack of access to basic services, and discrimination. With the National Women’s Month celebration, MSSD hopes to raise awareness of gender issues and promote the participation of women and girls in community development. Through the outreach program, the Ministry hopes to address the immediate needs of the community and provide them with the necessary support to achieve their aspirations.
