PIKIT, SPECIAL GEOGRAPHIC AREA โ In continuation of 30th National Children’s Month (NCM) celebration in BARMM, with the theme “Bangon Batang Bangsamoro”, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) led an outreach program earlier today, 18 November 2022 at Barangay Batulawan’s covered court for 100 orphaned children and Madrasah students. This is in partnership with Ministry of Health (MOH), Bangsamoro Attorney General’s Office (BAGO), Office of the Chief Minister (OCM), and Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR)- Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD).
During the program, MSSD provided them with backpacks and school supplies to augment their learning materials. The participants have also undergone Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) group sessions with the social workers.
To check their health status and promote proper hygiene among the children,
MOH also provided the children with hygiene kits, meals, medicines, and free medical consultation. The OCM’s Project Tabang mobile clinic was also present.

“The BARMM government is here to help you, especially MSSD. We have programs like Angat Bangsamoro Kabataan tungo sa Karunungan (ABaKa), Kupkop, and B-CARES, which aim to help you achieve a successful future. As the next generation, you have to strive to finish your studies because someday, we will rely on you as leaders and partners in continuing the good governance here in BARMM.” as emphasized by Lyca Therese Sarenas, MSSD Chief of Staff.
Also present during the activity were Datu Abdul Shattar Zailon โ MOH Chief of Population Division, Atty. Nurwahid Lakim โ BAGO Chief of Inter-Government Relations Division, MP Suharto Esmael, and other representatives from the barangay local government unit (BLGU).
This year’s celebration of NCM in BARMM is focused on ensuring that the rights of children affected by the recent typhoon and other crisis are recognized and met through the BARMM government’s programs on health and education. Majority of this outreach program’s beneficiaries are orphans and they are among the most vulnerable sectors of the society. The BARMM government specifically addresses their rights as stated in Article IX, Sec. 14 of Republic Act No. 11054, which provides that “the Bangsamoro Government shall respect, protect and promote the rights of children, especially orphans of tender age”.
Other provinces are also conducting municipal-led programs and activities in observance of NCM.
