BASILAN – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), organized the Pugay Tagumpay event—a graduation ceremony for the 817 beneficiaries who are residents of the municipalities of Akbar, Tipo-Tipo, and Sumisip in Basilan. The event took place from December 8 to December 12, 2023.

Among the graduating 4Ps beneficiaries in the province, 365 were from Tipo-Tipo, 257 from Akbar, and 195 from Sumisip.

Each 4Ps household graduate received certificates of recognition, a food package containing 1 sack of rice, assorted canned goods, noodles, coffee, and sugar, and a Php 15,000 seed capital fund for their chosen business through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).

Partner agencies, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), also extended their intervention by distributing seedlings and fertilizers to the 4Ps graduates for cultivating their own vegetable gardens. The Ministry of Basic Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), through its technical vocational skills program, provided livelihood skills training for the beneficiaries.

MSSD will continue to monitor the exiting 4Ps beneficiaries to ensure the development of their well-being achieved through the program. They will still be provided with the support, guidance, and social interventions needed for their businesses to progress and maintain self-sufficiency.

The 4Ps program is one of the nationally funded programs implemented by MSSD in the region. It is the national government’s poverty reduction strategy to alleviate the short-term needs of household beneficiaries and break the intergenerational cycle of poverty through investments in human capital.
