LAMITAN CITY, BASILAN – In line with the continuous seek to provide the most indigent patients their hospitalization needs, Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) Minister Atty. Raissa H. Jajurie personally handed over the check worth PhP 2, 000, 000 to OIC Chief of Lamitan District Hospital Dr. Jackie Lou Eisma โ Castillo last Friday, September 30, 2022 during the โTABANG Bangsamoro Convergence Programโ at Basilan Government Center, Santa Clara, Lamitan City, Basilan.
The said turned over amount serves as replenishment of the first PhP 2, 000, 000 that was downloaded last year to the said hospital.
Since MSSD and Lamitan District Hospital inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last 2021 for the implementation of Bangsamoro Critical Assistance for Indigents in Response to Emergency Situations (CARES) Program, as of September 30, a total of 657 indigent patients across the province have benefited from free hospitalization.
Aside from Lamitan District Hospital, MSSD also has an existing partnership with Basilan General Hospital in Isabela City in which 158 indigent patients have been catered already.
Overall, 815 indigent Basileรฑo patients have availed free hospitalization through MSSDโs partnership with the said two (2) hospitals in the province.
Bangsamoro CARES Program is one of social interventions under MSSDโs Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) that provides free hospitalization, free medicines, and financial assistance to patients who belong to indigent, vulnerable, and disadvantaged sectors upon assessment and recommendation of the designated social workers.
In order to avail free hospitalization, the client or informant may present the final hospital bill, barangay certificate of indigency, statement of account, promissory note (if the patient has been discharged), medical certificate, whole body picture of the patient, valid identification cards of the client/informant and of the patient to be submitted and assessed by either the attending MSSD social worker in the regional or provincial office, or the medical social worker assigned in the partner hospital.
โIn Shaa Allah, we will continue to do our best to serve all indigent clients to provide immediate assistance. We are also working to partner with more hospitals so that more clients can avail free hospitalization services under the Bangsamoro CARES Program of the ministry,โ said Bai Fatty Accoy, Social Welfare Officer II of MSSDโs Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU).
As to date, 4, 861 hospital patients availed Bangsamoro CARES Programโs free hospitalization assistance across Bangsamoro region who were admitted at the thirteen (13) existing partner hospitals of MSSD that continue to co-implement.
