ZAMBOANGA CITY โ The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) provided non-food items (NFIs) to fire-affected Bangsamoro households in Barangay Kasanyangan on March 2-3, 2023.
Under its Disaster Response Operation Services (DROS), the Ministry served the 419 identified Bangsamoro families with sleeping kits, dignity and protection kit, and water kits. To augment this, the Ministry is also set to distribute food packs to them in the coming days.
The City Government of Zamboanga and private donors initially provided relief items to all the affected households after the fire incident last February 20, 2023 that destroyed more than 250 houses which are made of light materials.
The distribution of aid to the affected Bangsamoro households in Barangay Kasanyangan is among the interventions provided by the Bangsamoro Government for its constituents in need. Under Article VI, Section 9(d) of RA 11054 or the Organic Law of the Bangsamoro, the Bangsamoro Government is mandated to provide assistance to Bangsamoro communities outside of the Bangsamoro region.
