SULU — The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) has responded to the tragic fire incident that occurred on a commercial vessel traveling from Zamboanga City to Jolo on March 29, 2023, by providing relief and financial assistance to those affected.
The incident caused 29 casualties and left more than 60 passengers injured. As of the latest report from the MSSD’s provincial office, 80 of them have received aid from the Ministry.
As of today, MSSD has provided P10,000-financial support to 69 survivors and P15,000 to each of the 11 patients still receiving treatment. Additionally, the families of those who lost their lives in the incident will receive burial assistance in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Ministry also assisted in the safe arrival of 39 survivors on April 2 to Sulu port, where they were given food packs comprising 25 kilogram- rice, viands, and instant coffee.
The Ministry remains committed to providing further interventions needed by those affected by the incident, in coordination with the concerned line agencies.
