The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) field workers under Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) conducted monitoring of bio-intensive gardens of household beneficiaries in Brgy. Poblacion, Mother Kabuntalan, Maguindanao earlier today, March 17, 2022.

Maintaining backyard or communal garden is one of the major program conditionalities of 4Ps that the beneficiaries need to comply aside from sending their children to school, attendance in the monthly Family Development Sessions (FDS), pre and post-natal care for the mothers, regular check-ups for their children aged from 0 to 5 years old, and deworming for children aged from 0 to 14 years old.

This conditionality addresses the health and nutrition of every household 4Ps beneficiary to ensure that they have access to nutritious food through planting vegetables and fruits in their own lawns instead of buying them.

Beneficiaries can also opt to sell their fresh harvests which can generate income.

Aside from benefits in nutrition and income generation, backyard or communal gardening also aims to alleviate food shortage in the country.

During FDS, beneficiaries were taught about basic gardening and other necessary technologies that can further grow their harvests that are sufficient for their families.
