The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), through the Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD), conducted monitoring of the ongoing construction of housing units for displaced families in Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur on December 13, 2023,

Of the total 84 housing units under construction in the municipality, 34 are in Brgy. Salbu, 25 in Brgy. Madia, and 25 in Brgy. Kitapok.

Each housing unit will encompass 30 square meters with two (2) bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen.

Among the recipients of the housing units in the municipality are families who were displaced and needed relocation. Most of these families also belong to Indigenous Peoples (IP).

“This social intervention by MSSD is called the Bahay Program, which provides permanent shelters as a long-term solution to the plight of displaced families whose homes and livelihoods are devastated due to recurring calamities and armed conflict. Qualified recipients of this housing program undergo case management, assessment, and validation by field social workers,” said Racmah Abdula, RSW, Chief of MSSD DRMD.

“Alongside the shelter units, MSSD has also provided Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) to the displaced families as part of the return package,” Abdula added.

According to Engr. Yusoph Pilas, MSSD’s Engineering Section personnel, the target completion date for the construction is in the early weeks of February next year.

“We are looking forward to having all the shelter units fully operational by March 2024. At that time, we can officially turn over these houses to the eligible recipients,” Pilas stated.
