The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) has taken a significant stride in providing long-term support to families who have lost their homes due to armed conflicts. On October 2, 2023, MSSD spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony to mark the construction of 74 housing units through the Ministry’s Bahay Program in Brgy. Salman, Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur.
A significant proportion of these displaced families belong to Indigenous Peoplesโ (IP) groups.
Suhad Bilang, the Municipal Social Welfare Officer of Ampatuan, stated that the target completion date for this housing project is December of this year.
โThis housing project is implemented under MSSDโs Disaster Response and Management Division. Beyond the initial welfare goods provided to them, this project represents a long-term social intervention for families left homeless by calamities and human-induced disasters,โ Bilang explained.
โWe will organize these families to participate in Parenting Effectiveness Sessions (PES) and Family Development Sessions (FDS). Additionally, we will prioritize them for other MSSD programs tailored to their specific needs, including livelihood assistance, educational support, and access to healthcare,โ she added.
This initiative underscores the MSSD’s commitment in not only providing immediate relief but also facilitating the long-term well-being and development of vulnerable communities impacted by crises and emergencies.
