Following the recent inauguration of the Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) Section at Cotabato Regional Medical Center (CRMC) on July 21, 2023, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) has extended its referral services to walk-in clients with disabilities (PWD) during the multispecialty mission held at the CRMC grounds in Cotabato City on July 22.
The activity was organized by CRMC in partnership with Physicians for Peace and MSSD’s Older Persons and Persons with Disability Welfare Program (OPPWDWP) and Bangsamoro Critical Assistance for Indigents in Response to Emergency Situations (B-CARES) Program.
In addition to referral services, MSSD also provided food and distributed informational materials about the B-CARES program to 500 walk-in patients.
The indigent PWD patients underwent assessment by MSSD for further medical assistance and social interventions. Subsequently, they were referred to CRMC for prosthetics and wheelchair provision.
CRMC and Physicians for Peace also supplied initial sets of wheelchairs to some indigent PWD clients who had already been assessed.
