COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) distributed 300 emergency Go Bags to partner line agencies and stakeholders earlier today, December 6, 2023, at the lobby of the People’s Palace, City Government of Cotabato.

Each Emergency Go Bag consists of a solar lamp, radio, whistles, rope, collapsible water container, file bag, first aid kit, compress dressing, gauze roll bandage, adhesive bandage, adhesive cloth tape, antiseptic wipes, sterile gauze pads, itch-control ointment, thermometer, non-latex gloves, bandage shear, tweezers, thermal blanket, cotton balls, povidone-iodine, a smaller backpack, manual resuscitator, cardiopulmonary resuscitation kit, triangular bandage, bleeding control pouch, tactical medical tourniquet, chest seal, duct tape, permanent marker, rubber boots, and raincoats.

The recipients were representatives from the various units and departments of the city local government, Office of the City Social Welfare and Development Services (OCSWDS), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Office on Health Services (OHS), Mayor Action Center (MAC), Barangay Emergency Response Team (BERT) which included the 37 different barangays of Cotabato, Public Safety Office, Quick Response Team (QRT), Traffic Management Unit (TMC), Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Marines, Sangguniang Panlungsod, Office of the City Mayor-Market, civil society organizations, and also partner academe, the Cotabato State University (CSU).

The distribution of the Emergency Go Bags aims to provide the city officials, responders, and volunteers with the necessary tools and resources to effectively respond during disasters and emergencies.

In the orientation program, CDRRMO Chief of Operations Jose Raymond Marquez emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and the role of the emergency Go Bags in saving lives.

“These Emergency Go Bags from MSSD serve as helping tools that you can use for every unexpected calamity that we may experience. These will also help us save lives,” Marquez added.

This intervention is implemented under the Ligtas Pamilya Project of MSSD’s Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), which aims to increase the knowledge and capacity of qualified force multipliers, such as community leaders and local responders, as well as households on disaster preparedness and resilience.
