(27 May 2022 | Maguindanao) – Today, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) distributed relief goods for 713 families displaced by military air strikes and mortar shelling in Barangays Penditen and Pandi in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao

On 23 May 2022, at around 7:35 am, 713 families from Sitio Kurungan and Mekam in Barangay Penditen (363 families), and Sitio Pagakatan, Barungen, Kurungan, Taparak, and Inugog in Barangay Pandi (350 families) have been forcibly displaced due to the military operations.

Based on the assessment of MSSD’s social workers, the displaced families sought refuge in the nearby communities.

Some are staying in the Penditen Barangay Hall (33 families), Barangay Pandi Day Care Center (45 families), and the Bangsamoro State University evacuation center in Barangay Magaslong in Datu Piang (12 families). Most of the families are staying with their relatives in the nearby sitios (623 home-based).

MSSD provided 25 kgs of rice, 3 cans of tuna, 3 cans of corned beef, 6 cans of sardines, and 12 coffee sachets for each displaced family.

These displaced families are affected by both armed conflict and natural disasters because their residences are in low-lying areas that are often flooded.

The lives of these internally displaced persons (IDPs) remain fragile and unstable, and the Ministry remains committed to provide the necessary life-saving assistance and other social protection interventions for them.
