SULU – With the goal of amplifying awareness on relevant social issues, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) capacitated the youth leaders in Sulu National High School (SNHS) through a two-day training last November 20-21, 2023
Pertinent laws, particularly the Anti-Human Trafficking in Persons Act and Anti-Child Marriage Law, were discussed during the training.
The objective of the event is to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of understanding the widespread issues of human trafficking and child marriage in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). A total of 21 members of SNHS-Supreme Student Government (SSG) completed the training.
Dharwin Pangambayan, the school principal of SNHS, and MSSD staff, including Asnaira Pagayao-Laba, Jan Michelle Agata, TIP focal, and Nurhalin Senebalo, TIP focal of MSSD-Sulu office, were present during the orientation. They shared insights and discussed child rights and protection, as well as the handling of trafficked persons.
Moving forward, the SSG officers themselves will also conduct information dissemination to another batch of students from their school comprising 250 individuals to further spread the said advocacies.
In his message, Pangambayan underscored the importance of raising awareness to address certain cases that contribute to the violation of human rights, particularly the children.
The Ministry is committed to working with schools and youth groups to combat human trafficking and child marriage in BARMM.
