Maimbung, Sulu- In collaboration with UNICEF and UNHCR, the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) distributed live birth certificates here to 100 children on November 11, 2023.
The initiative aimed to address the fundamental right of a child- to have a name and identity through birth certificate registration and have access to government services.
Aside from free live birth certificates, the children also received kits inside a customized bag containing essential school supplies, tumblers, umbrellas, and wooden toys.
The children-beneficiaries were previously unregistered with the Local Civil Registrar of the municipality.
Before the distribution, MSSD social workers collaborated with the local civil registrar of Maimbung, to conduct validation and case management for unregistered children. This meticulous process aimed to ensure the accuracy of information, prevent dual registration, and eliminate any potential misrepresentation.
During the event, MSSD Sulu provincial social welfare officer Imelda P. Kangiluhan emphasized the significance of giving children an identity through live birth certificates and respecting their rights to live freely.
โThe distribution of live birth certificates to our indigent children here is part of the continuous commitment of MSSD to promote the rights and welfare of Bangsamoro children,โ Kangiluhan said.
Graced the event were key representatives from UNHCR, UNICEF, Maimbung LGU, 1st RMFC RMFB BASULTA, and Maimbung MPS.
