SK, MAGUINDANAO DEL NORTE – Dozens of families affected by the fire incident that occurred on March 3, 2023, in Barangay Salimbao, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, have received relief aid from the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD). The relief assistance was distributed yesterday, March 4, 2023, at Nuling Elementary School in Barangay Nuling and at the quarantine facility in Barangay Dalumangcob.
Out of the 46 families affected by the fire, eight are currently residing in the quarantine facility in Barangay Dalumangcob while the rest are staying with their relatives. The relief assistance includes non-food items such as hygiene kits, cooking kits, dignity kits, and trapal.
Rosalie Camsa, a solo parent and one of the fire victims, expressed her gratitude for the immediate relief assistance provided by MSSD and BARMM. She also mentioned the difficulties faced by her family as they are currently staying with relatives and are uncertain about how to start again.
Meanwhile, Fauziah Ibrahim, Municipal Social Welfare Officer, assured that aside from NFIs, they will be conducting a household assessment to provide Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA).
โWe will conduct an ESA assessment to determine the partially and totally damaged houses so that we can identify the most appropriate social intervention for each family. We will also provide โpabaonโ or multipurpose cash assistance to the victims,โ Ibrahim added.
MSSD’s emergency response is implemented through its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), which offers prompt support to individuals and families facing crises and emergency circumstances.
The local government unit also provided meal rations and set up a community kitchen in the evacuation area to help the families affected by the fire.
