TAWI-TAWI — The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) conducted a series of distribution of monetized rice subsidy to 589 Badjao families under the Layag Badjao Program on October 27 – November 14, 2023.
Each Badjao family received Php 3,600.00 for their rice subsidy which covers their monthly allocation for three (3) months.
Among the recipients, 60 were from Simunul, 86 from Sibutu, 27 from South Ubian, 60 from Mapun, 90 from Sitangkai, 80 from Bongao, 71 from Sapa-Sapa, 43 from Panglima Sugala, 22 from Tandubas and 50 from Languyan. This initiative aims to alleviate the socioeconomic condition of Badjao families and provide them with social protection services, opportunities for education, livelihood, and self-enhancement.
Prior to the payouts, MSSD social workers conducted case management for the indigent beneficiaries to ensure their eligibility and the accuracy of information.
According to Minang Nagamora, MSSD’s Family and Community Welfare Program (FCWP) Focal Person, the program aims to reach a total of 700 beneficiaries in Tawi-Tawi this 2023 and is now expanding to Sulu and Basilan to reach more Badjao communities.
“The payout for the remaining 111 beneficiaries will be set in the coming days before the year ends,” she added.
The Layag Badjao Program is a holistic assistance for Badjao families that ensures inclusive services for their welfare and aims to uplift them through livelihood assistance, education, health and nutrition services, and resettlement opportunities.
