MAGUINDANAO DEL SUR – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) has officially turned over 16 permanent shelter units and water system to indigent displaced families in Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao del Sur, on December 28, 2023.
The construction of the housing units was initiated on March 3 of this year and was successfully completed on December 19.
As part of MSSD’s Bahay Program, this housing intervention and solar-powered water system serve as long-term solution for families affected by recurring calamities and armed conflict. Qualified recipients of the program undergo case management, assessment, and validation facilitated by field social workers.
Before the turnover ceremony, MSSD had been providing various social interventions to the families, including the distribution of welfare goods, medical assistance through the Bangsamoro Critical Assistance for Indigents in Response to Emergency Situations (B-CARES) Program, livelihood support through the Bangsamoro Sagip Kabuhayan (BSK), and incentives through the Cash-for-Work Program.
During the turnover event, MSSD Director General Atty. Mohammad Muktadir Estrella highlighted the spirit of trust and confidence within the project, affirming that this collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Datu Hoffer will not be the last.
“MSSD’s support will continue not only for infrastructure projects but also for soft projects such as providing welfare goods during calamities and social protection in the coming years,” Estrella stated.
Ronald Anawan, a 50-year-old recipient of a housing undifficults gratitude, saying, “Thank you very much for the assistance in helping us have a home because the situation has been really difficult for us since we experienced a fire in the mountains.”
MSSD remains committed to monitoring and assessing the said families to guide and assist them in improving their lives through its various programs.
Present also during the activity were MSSD Maguindanao Provincial Social Welfare Officer Hadja Emma S. Ali, RSW MTSW, Municipal Social Welfare Officer Zahara I. Blo, RSW, MPA, Municipal Administrator Nurodin M. Mamaluba, ABC President Abdulmoen A. Ampatuan, and MSSD Chief of Disaster Response and Management Division Racmah A. Abdula, along with para-social workers, barangay officials, and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel.
