The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) pledges its commitment to facilitate and manage the Center for the Handicapped of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region XII during the turnover ceremony on November 3, 2023.
The facility has provided vocational, social rehabilitation, and other basic services to persons with disabilities (PWDs) for over 32 years. The goal of the center is to develop the PWDs’ self-reliance and their full integration into mainstream society.
The ceremonial turnover of the keys of responsibility was led by DSWD XII regional director Loreto Jr. V. Cabaya and executives of Center for Handicapped, and personally received by MSSD minister Raissa Jajurie.
During the ceremony, Minister Jajurie stressed that the Bangsamoro Government is continuously working to serve the vulnerable sectors and deliver the basic social services they need. “We can now ensure that the Bangsamoro Government has the facility and capacity to execute its mandate of providing opportunities for PWD to be integrated into the community as capable and productive civilians,” Jajurie said.
MSSD director general Mohammad Muktadir Estrella also expressed commitment and gratitude to DSWD XII for trusting MSSD in managing the Center.“From the Bangsamoro expenditure for 2024, MSSD will allocate 7.6 million pesos for the center. We hope to learn from our experience here, and Insha ’Allah, in the future, we will establish more centers for persons with disabilities in other provinces of BARMM,’ Estrella said.
The ceremony was also attended by MSSD deputy minister Nur-Ainee Tan Lim and key representatives from partner organizations, City Government of Cotabato, Kutawato GreenLand Initiative (KGI), PNP Cotabato, TESD, Alternative Learning System (ALS), Philippine Dental Association (PDA), Cotabato Regional Medical Center Dental Department (CRMC-DD), Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
