COTABATO CITY โ The Ministry of Social Services and Development, in collaboration with the Office of the City Social Welfare Development (CSWDO) of the City Government of Cotabato, launched two projects here today, 23 January 2024 โ Key Actions towards Lifting Young Bangsamoro thru Empowerment (KALYE) and Support to End Child Labor.
The KALYE project aims to provide a holistic and child rights approach to prevent children from experiencing rights violations and the lack of choices that results in them being forced to rely on the streets for their survival and development. This includes providing a mobile community kitchen that will provide daily hot meals for beneficiaries for 120 days.
Meanwhile, the Support to End Child Labor project aims to contribute to the children’s development and welfare, including their families. It ensures that children who are engaged in harmful work/labor are removed or rescued by providing support for their daily expenses through rice subsidy and financial assistance, which includes educational assistance of PhP 5,000, rice subsidy of 2 sacks of rice (25kgs each), training for parents on the effects of child labor, and an advocacy campaign to end child labor in the Bangsamoro region.
Children and Youth Welfare program focal person, Arbaine Guiabar, highlighted โthese projects ensure the safety of children and provide them with a conducive environment free from danger.โ
Graced the launching ceremony held at Cotabato City Peopleโs Palace are City Mayor Bruce Matabalao, MSSDโs deputy minister Nur Ainee Tan Lim and director-general Atty. Muhammad Muktadir Estrella; Ministry of Labor and Employment (MOLE) director Sarah Jane Sinsuat; and International Labour Organization (ILO) project officer Elias Salazar.
