COTABATO CITY โ MSSD has distributed relief goods to 1,331 flood-affected families in barangays Kalanganan 1 and Kalanganan 2 here earlier today, 17 August 2022.
Out of the total number of beneficiaries, 704 of them are from Barangay Kalanganan 1 while the remaining 627 are from Barangay Kalanganan 2.
Each of the flood-affected families received 25 kilogram-rice and a relief pack containing 6 cans of sardines, 3 corned beef, and 1 dozen-instant coffee.
Most of these residents are living along the riverbanks, which made their homes greatly affected by the flooding incident, which occurred last 27 July. The critical water level caused by the heavy rainfall caused the loss of some of their properties and sources of their livelihood.
As of writing, majority of the houses in these barangays are still submerged knee-deep in the floodwater. This relief operation was executed after the validation of flood-affected residents on 09 August, which was conducted by Office on Social Welfare and Development Services (OSWDS).
This relief distribution is under the Disaster Risk Management Operations Program of Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD). The beneficiaries who received the relief goods today belong to the list of those who were not able to receive assistance from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
According to Ms. Sheehery-Saad S. Salendab โ Social Welfare Assistant of DRMD, the main purpose of this relief operation is to alleviate the difficult situation that the residents are experiencing until now due to recurring rainfall.
The Ministry will continue to distribute relief goods to other validated flood-affected areas, with residents who need relief assistance, in the coming weeks.
