TAWI-TAWI – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), through its Sulu Provincial Branch Office, extended relief assistance to 900 Badjao families affected by drought in Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi, from November 7 to 30, 2023.
Each family received welfare goods containing a sack of rice, assorted canned goods, noodles, coffee, and sugar.
The humanitarian aid aims to deliver essential support and help families meet their basic needs as they cope with the challenges brought by the current drought.
Prior to the distribution, the MSSD municipal fieldworkers conducted assessments and profiling to ensure that the recipients’ immediate needs will be addressed as well as guarantee that the aid would reach the most vulnerable families.
Sitangkai Municipal Mayor Tiblan Ahaja also provided logistical support in facilitating the transport of welfare goods to the affected families.
Officials and personnel from the municipal and barangay local government units and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) also assisted during the distribution.
