TAWI-TAWI- Following the series of simultaneous payouts of the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) through the Social Pension (SocPen) for Indigent Senior Citizens Program from October and November 2023, a total of 12, 846 indigent elderly in the province of Tawi-Tawi received their subsidies.

According to Analyn Pasaforte, Provincial Monitoring, and Evaluation Officer, as of December 3, MSSD has reached the said number of indigent senior citizens across the province and provided them with Php 3,000 each which covers their monthly subsidy for six (6) months.

Among the recipients, 1, 989 were from Bongao, 1, 585 from Sitangkai, 1, 330 from Sibutu, 1, 268 from Languyan, 1, 197 from Simunul, 1, 176 from Mapun, 1, 126 from South Ubian, 1, 107 from Tandubas, 1, 037 from Sapa-Sapa, 943 from Panglima Sugala, and 88 from Turtle Islands.

This year, MSSD targets to reach a total 13, 310 elderly in the whole province through the SocPen Program. The distribution of subsidies for the remaining 464 elderly beneficiaries is ongoing.

The SocPen Program is a nationally funded program implemented by MSSD in BARMM which provides a monthly stipend of Php 500 to qualified indigent elderly to support their basic daily necessities like medicine, food, and other essentials.
