LANAO DEL SUR – The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), under its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), distributed 168 Emergency Go Bags to para-social workers and provincial disaster responders on November 25, 2023, at the gymnasium of Area 6, Brgy. Sagonsongan, Marawi City.
The Emergency Go Bags contain a solar lamp, radio, whistles, rope, collapsible water container, file bag, first aid kit, compress dressing, gauze roll bandage, adhesive bandage, adhesive cloth tape, antiseptic wipes, sterile gauze pads, itch-control ointment, thermometer, non-latex gloves, bandage shear, tweezers, thermal blanket, cotton balls, povidone-iodine, emergency go bag (backpack), manual resuscitator, cardiopulmonary resuscitation kit, triangular bandage, bleeding control pouch, tactical medical tourniquet, chest seal, duct tape, permanent marker, rubber boots, and raincoats.
Aside from the emergency preparedness kits, the para-social workers also received Php 9,000 each as their monthly stipend for three (3) months. This is through MSSDโs Lingkod Pamayanan para sa Kapayapaan Program, an intervention that deploys community volunteers as additional workforce to the municipal field offices and provides them each with PhP 3,000 monthly honoraria.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office also facilitated an orientation on basic life support, particularly on how to use the kits inside the go bags during emergencies in their respective areas.
In the coming days, MSSD is set to distribute another set of Emergency Go Bags to other remaining para-social workers and community responders deployed across the province.
