Super Typhoon Odette (international code name Rai) wreaked havoc across Mindanao and the Visayas, including a significant portion of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur.

The strong winds and torrential rains brought about by Super Typhoon Odette resulted in flooding and displacement of Bangsamoro families.

MSSD’s social workers are now on the ground and have been closely coordinating with the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (DRRMOs) to assess the damage and provide immediate life saving support.

Based on the initial estimates, 11,305 families have been affected by the flooding in the municipality of Pagalungan in Maguindanao. One hundred sixty (160) families have evacuated and are now staying on higher ground.

In Datu Montawal, Maguindanao, 4,863 families have been affected. The most affected barangays are Dunggua, Maridagao, Talitay, Batungkayo, and Nabundas.

In Guindulungan, Maguindanao, 286 families from Barangays Kalumanis and Muslim have been flooded.

Meanwhile, in Bubong in the province of Lanao del Sur, 1,016 houses have been affected by the heavy flooding, with 3 houses totally damaged, and 55 houses partially damaged.

MSSD shall continue its relief distribution for the families affected by the Super Typhoon.

MSSD serves as the Vice Chair for Disaster Response of the Bangsamoro Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (Bangsamoro DRRMC).
