TAWI-TAWI – A total of 1,338 indigent students in Tawi-Tawi received educational assistance through the Angat Bangsamoro: Kabataan Tungo sa Karunungan (ABaKa) Program of the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD). The distribution took place at the MSSD Tawi-Tawi Provincial Office from November 21 to 29, 2023.
Among the beneficiaries, 605 elementary students received Php 2,000 each, 466 high school students received Php 3,000 each, and 267 college students received Php 10,000 each.
The said student recipients were from the seven (7) municipalities of Tawi-Tawi, such as Tandubas, Simunul, Sibutu, South Ubian, Languyan, Sitangkai, and Sapa-Sapa.
MSSD will continue the payout for the remaining four (4) municipalities in the coming weeks to reach other qualified students in the province.
The ABaKa Program is one of the social protection programs of MSSD that aims to provide financial assistance to indigent students to help them cover school-related expenses such as school supplies, books, school projects, and internet/data. This program is an initiative of the Ministry in promoting education and supporting the vulnerable youth in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
